Some friends at Wolf Point -- FORE!

Not too long ago a few friends came down to play Wolf Point with Don.  It reminds me a bit of this Tiger picture from a few years ago.  Good try Sam!

I have lots more to share in the coming weeks.
I've been running out of time.
The spring flowers are coming in nicely around the clubhouse.

#9 almost ready

The above picture is taken from on the 9th green towards the main clubhouse - the tee is just in front. The green is growning in well. The fairway wraps around the lake. It is one of the first pictures I've taken of the hole. I have a good idea on how I'm going to photograph it when it's ready. Taking as many pictures as I do - I'm often planning out future shots. Next time I shoot this image I'm going to make sure the whole fairway is in view.

Windy as The Open

That was some great playing by Harrington yesterday. I wish more courses were left alone to play with the elements. Sometimes it will be easier, sometimes it will be too hard. Some days Wolf Point is easier and somedays it is harder - the wind is the biggest variable, followed closely by pin location and firmness.

Above is a picture of the bunker hidden by the 14th green. The view is looking back towards the live oak in the middle of the fairway.

15th from the ball's perspective

I took a new digital camera to the course for the first time yesterday. A lot of experimenting - I thought the effect was pretty good. The picture is from the back of the 15th green towards a front middle pin. There is a large swale between me and the hole.

I'll make a post about the cameras as I learn more about them - every picture I've taken of the course was with an inexpensive pocket digital camera - and my new one is only slightly different.

I'll be back to the routings on Monday.

A few more people have seen the course to see our grass and play with our client. It is all extremely positive - they have been blown away.

The views near the 12th tee (above) are more and more stunning each visit. The golf course looked like waves reflecting the setting sun.

Routing Plan and As-Built

Here is Wolf Point Club in its entirity. The above image is the as-built routing plan. The design, GPS acquired data and the most current aerial photograph all laid out together. I've gotten some very nice feedback from those that I've show the plan and the person who has seen it most always thought it was exceptional. This spring an article about the evolution of the routing will be published. I look forward to sharing the process in detail here.

New View and Banner Image

I had a very enjoyable day at Wolf Point yesterday. The big surprise for me was the new dramatic view pictured above. The big clubhouse is taking shape and the first floor is in place - so I got a better elevated look across the golf course. It was the elevation and long green vista that was a beautiful revelation. The camera is looking down 18 with views of the 14th & 17th greens, with the 17th fairway disappearing in the distance.

Also of note we had a new visitor who has had a very accomplished career that involved 30 years of design, construction and maintenance. Unprompted she thought the open areas resembled Scotland. She commented on how nice the live oaks were across the site, and some very good use of them with regards to hole design. And she was also most impressed with the overall management of the construction and maintenance. Her experiences on construction sights was mostly that the outsides of the course weren't finished until way after the course was built. Lastly she said it would take her a while to get her head around the place, as it all seemed so different.

And to top it all off I spent some evening time with our client his family and friends - they were all so excited after seeing the course and its progress. I also learned our client has been chipping a bit on one of the 7th fairway. He was very pleased.

December Sharp Sweet Dusk Air

Tonight the course was so beautiful I decided to take a brief intermission from my top 10 and share. I was at a spot I haven't photographed before -- directly behind the 12th green looking across the 11th & 2nd fairways towards the 3rd green in the distance. It was a beautiful day today and I sat for a while in this spot and enjoyed our progress and the sharp sweek dusk air.
