The Tortuous Path

This picture is taken from the middle of the 3rd fairway. The right side of this par five is "The Tortuous Path". The green is receptive to play from the left side of the fairway. I played my 2nd 18 hole round last week - I have lots of new images to show - please note the new banner image.

The 3rd Hole

If you can carry the bunkers and keep it out of the left rough on your tee shot, your are greatly rewarded. The par five green is reachable if you've come this far. Usually the play is to the right as the hole heads into the prevailing wind. Our client has definately grown to appreciate the benefit of keeping the ball left. The second photo below shows the path a little better. This construction aerial helps too.

The bunkers in the distance hug the green's right side and approach. So far I haven't carried the bunkers, or gotten home in two.

The 3rd Green - an architectural like

My second hole for the day was the par five 3rd. The first time I played it cautiously. The second time I missed a bit. Both times I played down the right side (the less advantagous side). Both times I tried to do too much with my 3rd shot knowing how difficult it would be from the far side of the fairway. Both times I made a bogey. I was enjoying my round so much I wasn't really paying too much attention to the course, I was soaking up all the other elements of the day - mostly the fruition of all our hard work.

The above picture is of the 3rd green and the two heights of cut around the course. The green is surrounded by a tight fairway cut that extends througout the entire hole. No collar, no intermediate rough. I love that there are only two heights of cut through the green throughout Wolf Point.

The following picture is the opposite and one of my dislikes that didn't make my previous list. Please notice how many different heights of grass cuts are in the following picture all within a few feet of the green.

Not very practical, I don't like the playability, higher maintenance costs and I think it looks funny too.

The 3rd - pictured from above earlier this year.

My favorite aspect of the third is how the sight line is a perfect line of charm for the player standing on the tee and the green looks like it sits lightly on top of two bunker complexes - at the first landing zone and surrounding the green in the above picture. The long route to the hole looks like a recurve bow, while the direct route is the string which can be made in two strokes as there is a bit of a help from the prevailing wind.
